Littre’s hernia in the context of the complicated femoral hernia. A case report
Keywords:
Littre's hernia, Meckel's diverticulum, femoral herniaAbstract
Introduction: Meckel's diverticulum is the embryological remnant of the omphalomesenteric duct and arises from its incomplete obliteration during the fifth week of gestation. Littre's hernia is a rare clinical entity characterized by the presence of a Meckel's diverticulum within a hernial sac.
Objective: To expose a case of Littre's hernia in the context of a complicated right femoral hernia.
Case presentation: An 80-year-old male patient was admitted with suspected inguinal hernia and intestinal involvement. The diagnosis of Littre's hernia was made intraoperatively, upon finding a Meckel's diverticulum incarcerated in the femoral ring. Femoral herniorrhaphy was performed using the Cheatle-Henry technique, along with wedge resection and anastomosis of the small intestine, with a good postoperative course. Conclusions: This case highlights the importance of considering Littre's hernia as a differential diagnosis in patients with complicated femoral hernias, especially when the clinical presentation is atypical.
