Introduction: In 2001, the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) study group was formed, later becoming the ERAS Society. Its goals are to minimize perioperative risk while facilitating and accelerating the patient's transition through the postoperative and recovery phases.
Objective: To evaluate compliance with ERAS protocol guidelines in patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery at the "León Cuervo Rubio" Clinical-Surgical Teaching Hospital from January to December 2024.
Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted, reviewing the medical records of all patients who underwent colorectal surgery.
Results: The sample consisted of 65 patients, predominantly in the 51–70 age group and male. There was a predominance of non-ingestion of clear liquids preoperatively (83.08%) and the ingestion of liquids postoperatively within the first 12 hours. A higher percentage of patients underwent bowel preparation; the urinary catheter was removed in less than 24 hours, and all patients received preoperative anticoagulation and antibiotic prophylaxis.
Conclusions: Deficiencies remain in compliance with ERAS protocol guidelines, involving surgeons, patients, and other members of the basic surgical services workgroups.
