Dermoscopic Characteristics of Melanoma in Patients at “Hermanos Ameijeiras” Surgical Clinical Hospital

Introduction: Cutaneous melanoma is a malignant neoplasm with high incidence and mortality rates. Dermoscopy is capable of improving the diagnostic accuracy on clinical inspection.
Objective: To describe the dermoscopic findings of cutaneous melanoma in patients treated in the protocolized consultation at Hermanos Ameijeiras Surgical Clinical Hospital from January 2018 to January 2020.
Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a sample of 27 patients with cutaneous melanoma treated in the protocolized consultation Hermanos Ameijeiras Surgical Clinical Hospital from January 2018 to January 2020. Clinical and dermoscopic variables were collected and descriptive statistics were used.
Results: Superficial spreading melanoma predominated for 40.8%. Almost half of the melanomas in the study showed a blue-whitish veil for 48.1%. The global multicomponent pattern was present in 77.8% of melanomas, respectively.
The clinical form melanoma of superficial extension, the structures blue-whitish veil and dots and globules predominated, as well as the multicomponent pattern. The introduction of dermoscopy makes it possible to complement the clinical diagnosis of melanoma.
