Abstract

Transcranial Doppler (TCD) is a noninvasive ultrasound (US) technique allowing assessing the velocity and direction of blood flow in proximal segments of main cerebral arteries. It is used in assessment and follow-up of patients presenting with cerebrovascular diseases thus becoming in an essential tool of encephalic death. In present review the TCD significance is emphasized as diagnostic and therapeutical mean in patients presenting with cerebrovascular affections admitted in a ictus unit and also as a complementary test in encephalic death diagnosis.
