Abstract

A descriptive analysis, review and update of the association between insulin resistance, insulin resistance syndrome and the appearance of cancer was carried out.
The insulin resistance syndrome describes a group of related clinical conditions (dyslipidemia, hypertension, prediabetes and diabetes mellitus type 2, overweight and obesity, prothrombotic and proinflammatory state), whose common denominator is insulin resistance and compensatory hyperinsulinemia, associated with a chronic inflammatory state and of endothelial dysfunction, of continuous and progressive evolution, predisposing to the development of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease, increasing morbidity and mortality.
Cancer is among the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the world today. Not only the association of insulin resistance and insulin resistance syndrome justifies the association of cancer with cardiovascular diseases and the increase in mortality from cardiovascular causes, but also certain treatment schemes in cancer, such as radiotherapy and hematopoietic cell transplants. They increase insulin resistance, favor the onset of insulin resistance syndrome, cardiovascular disease and increase cardiovascular mortality.
In patients with insulin resistance and insulin resistance syndrome there is an increased risk of developing several types of cancer, including breast, endometrium, pancreas and liver. The link between cancer treatment and cardiovascular disease is insulin resistance and insulin resistance syndrome. Schemes of treatments for cancer such as radiotherapy and hematopoietic cell transplants, increase insulin resistance, develop insulin resistance syndrome and increase cardiovascular diseases and mortality.
