Abstract

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis affects the synovial joints variable and progressively. High resolution ultrasound with Doppler is useful in the early diagnosis of the disease.
Objective
: To establish and characterize a vascular ultrasound pattern of the synovial membrane, based on the use of high resolution ultrasound with pulsed Doppler and color in patients with suspected rheumatoid arthritis.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was conducted in 24 patients; 19 women and 5 men, between the 3rd and 5th decades of life.
Results: With the high resolution ultrasound, synovial proliferation was observed in 100% of the cases, with cellular joint effusion in 41.66% and transparent in 37.50%.
Conclusions: It was demonstrated that high resolution ultrasound is an effective technique in the early diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, with a validity index of 91.67%, without significant differences when compared with arthroscopy.
