Trifocal intraocular lens: a new experience
Keywords:
intraocular lenses, trifocal, cataractAbstract
Introduction: The technological impact experienced by the current cataract surgery makes it to transform itself from a procedure that cures blindness to being currently a procedure that seeks to maximize visual function.
Objective: To report the results of the diffractive trifocal intraocular lens implant.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study in 8 eyes that underwent phacoemulsification of the crystalline lens and trifocal intraocular lenses AT. LISA tri 839 MP, in December 2016 at Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital. They were analyzed in the preoperative period and after one month: visual acuity without and with correction at a far distance, intermediate (67 cm) and close (33 cm); the changes in refraction and in the spherical equivalent; the binocular defocus curve; the presence of dysphotopic symptoms. The satisfaction of the patient and the dependence on optical correction were evaluated by an analogue-visual scale and a satisfaction survey.
Results: The average age was 48.2 years. There was a 100 % decrease in the refractive defect of the patients, and 10-line improvement in visual acuity without correction at the three distances, and 75 % with a spherical equivalent between ± 1.00 diopters. The binocular defocus curve showed a correct visual performance of the lens at the three distances with visual acuity greater than 0.8 in the Snellen chart. The most reported dysphotopic symptoms were: vision of brightness at night, intermittent blurring, halos and the need to blink to refocus; maximum independence was observed on the optical correction.
Conclusions: The implantation of this trifocal lens allows a visual rehabilitation at the three distances and improvement of the quality of life in these patients.
