The Cavitation Effect on Penetrating Femoral- Popliteal Vascular Injury
Keywords:
cavitation effect, vascular lesionsAbstract
Introduction: vascular injuries during a war have always been a concern for vascular surgeon. One of them is the cavitation effect as a result of the development of modern weapons.
Objectives: present the importance of cavitation effect on gunshot wounds.
Methods: combat casualties of the Angolan war were studied from 1990 to 1994. The basic design was descriptive and retrospective. 134 vascular examinations were performed, 41 out of them were femoral-popliteal sector. 12 cases in group A with cavitation effect were compared with 29 no cavitation effect cases in group B.
Result: the cavitation effect is totally destructive and placed the wounded at risk for limb and life.
Conclusions: analysis and classifications always worth an effort to rescue correct.
