Factors associated with remission in rheumatoid arthritis.

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a multisystem chronic inflammatory disease of unknown etiology and autoimmune nature that affects peripheral joints symmetrically. Objective: identify the factors that are associated with sustained remission in patients with RA. Method: A retrospective, analytical-observational cohort study was carried out with patients who belong to the protocolized Rheumatoid Arthritis consultation. Results: the female gender predominated by 89%, white skin color 68% and a mean age of 53.11± 13.1. An association was found between sustained remission of RA and the absence of large joint involvement. The clinical laboratory variables that were associated with remission or not of RA were CRP and rheumatoid factor. Conclusions: In the present study, the demographic variables analyzed, age, sex, and skin color, were not prognostic factors of sustained remission. The clinical and laboratory variables that are associated with the state of sustained remission in patients with RA were not taking large joints, and low levels of CRP and RF. Imaging variables, within the scope of the present study, were not useful as a prognostic factor to predict sustained remission of patients.
