Abstract

Introduction: During the postoperative period, events that occur in the planned course of a surgical procedure with a response that can interfere with recovery and put vital functions at risk may occur. Surgical site infections represent one of the most common postoperative complications, the incidence of these can be influenced by multiple factors and varies according to the type of surgery performed.

Objetive: To present a case of infrequent complication after gluteal lipotransfer.

Case presentation: A 30-year-old female patient with a postoperative infection from a gluteal lipotransference who in the postoperative period presents multiple fistulas and bloody areas in the gluteal, sacral and anterior face of the right thigh that is received in the plastic surgery service. Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras due to no improvement in the face of the antibiotic treatment imposed in another institution. The patient is admitted to the service where multiple studies are carried out to look for the causal agent of the infection, including culture for atypical mycobacteria, which was negative. In the presence of a persistent infection of three months' evolution, the history of an intrauterine device for five years was thought to be an actinomycosis infection and was treated as such with satisfactory results.

Conclusions: The rise of infectious processes secondary to lipoinjection requires an in-depth analysis of the factors that favor said complication and in the differential diagnosis that must include thinking about unusual processes because, although unlikely, they may be present.
