A descriptive review is carried out, which attempts to update the characteristics that are common to patients with diseases with a surgical solution in terms of the close links between their nutritional and metabolic status and the capacity of adaptive and regenerative response to the disease itself and its treatment. This work is very useful for teaching and will also raise the interest of many people from related fields. Therefore, this review intends to summarize the information that allows to assess the available evidence regarding the nutritional status of patients with surgical solution diseases and the strategy of diagnostic intervention and diet therapy and nutritional therapy in the preoperative, transoperative and postoperative stages.
