Usefulness of transarterial embolization in the treatment of splenic aneurism
Keywords:
splenic aneurism, Doppler ultrasound, CT angiogram, embolization.Abstract
Introduction: Splenic aneurysm is considered the most frequent among visceral aneurysms, accounting for up to 60 % of them.
Objective: To demonstrate the usefulness of a less invasive therapeutic means for the definitive treatment of the mentioned aneurysms.
Case presentation: A case referred to our department is presented, which was comprehensively evaluated by imaging, and then treated by means of coil liberation for its vascular exclusion. The usefulness of vascular interventional radiology for the minimally invasive and satisfactory treatment of surgically complex cases is highlighted.
Conclusions: The transarterial embolization applied in well-selected patients constitutes a powerful minimally invasive therapeutic resource and with very satisfactory results in terms of reduction of complications and faster recovery of patients.
